Applying the Ottawa Charter to Health Issues in the Community

Teaching Strategy Description:
Students practice population health planning, implementation and evaluation using the third practice tool to apply the Ottawa Charter health promotion approaches to address the priority health issue in their community. The fourth practice tool on program planning, implementation and evaluation demonstrates knowledge, skills and attitudes related to population health planning. Students are expected to use evidence to inform actions. Clinical placements for the community as a client include schools, parenting resource centres (OEYC), workplaces, ESL programs, and public health.
Teaching Context:
- Level three community clinical placement course, all students are required to complete this course
- Students are in the placement 6 hours/week for a total of 72 hours; additional one hour conferences weekly with faculty
